This Year's Model Updates:

After undergoing a full redesign last year, Chevrolet's heavy-duty three-quarter-ton truck gets few changes for 2002. Air conditioning is now standard on all trim levels along with extendable sunshade visors and improved base model radios.

Pros:
  • Class-leading engines and hauling capacity, roomy interior, superior brakes.
Cons:
  • Spotty build quality, cheap interior materials.

to many problems for a new vehicle in this day and age. the 2500 hd pick up truck that i purchased had a cracked oil pan, the rear end leaks, all door locks have fallen off on the inside of truck, leaf spring pads have fallen out, the left rear door on the crew cab does not open, and when it rains the truck jerks back and fourth like the transmission is going to fall out. chevy has had a very poor response to all the problems i had with this truck. Its one big lemon and its my problem because i purchased the truck. my company owns six other chevys trucks but this will most likely be my last purchase of a new chevy truck.

I bought the smaller engine thiking that would be all I would need. If you are going to buy this truck get the bigger engine. With the small engine I am getting between 10 and 11 mpg. The short bed does not allow for a larger fuel tank so plan accordingly. Im getting rid of mine and buying a diesel.

Has an engine tick which Gen Mtrs. says is piston slap. Misses when any loading such as going up even a slight hill. Local dealer has been working with GM engineers was told currently is no fix? Told Gen. Mtrs. knew of a "FEW" 6.0L engines that do this. Should not have released them if they knew there was a problem. currently trying to get vehicle repaired/replaced under "Lemon Law". Vehicle only has 4500MI. on it.

dont get the small block 6.o you will get the same fuel mileage as the 8.1 and give up 45 horsepower.I tow a 14 ft enclosed trailer app. weight 4000 pounds loaded and I get 7 miles to the gallon. The gear ratio from 3rd to overdrive is to steep. making you drive in 3rd pulling a load the truck can not maintain 70 mph in overdrive. The headliners on three of my 2002hds look as if they were cut to small. The way the backseat folds down for storage is a joke. I have a very loud knock in the motor since new. The dealer tells me its normal then ask me if it burned a quart of oil every 3 thousand miles.Beware of the 6.o litre it has problems they wont admit to

  • Piston knock - 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD

Engine knock. The dealer told me it was a lifter and that is normal to knock after start up. I took it in a few weeks ago about the start up knock again. This time I was given a bulletin from Chevrolet stating that they are experiencing this in several engine sizes. It is a piston slapping the cylinder that is causing the knock. Chevrolet says it is harmless and they are not going to do anything about it at this time. Ive been told they are issuing 100,000 mi. warranties to those who continue to complain. This truck is cheap compared to my 1994 Chevy 1500 I had. This is my last Chevy PU.
